Jena High School-Based Health Center is one of 17 Christus School-Based Health Centers. Christus is collaborating with Access Health Louisiana to operate and govern its school-based health center. Access Health Louisiana ranks in the top 10% of all community health centers in the United States for quality according to the Health Resources and Services Administration. The Jena High School-Based Health Center is located in Jena off East Highschool Drive. AHL provides both primary care and behavioral health services for this clinic.
Nurse Practitioner Caylon Windham provides primary care for students including acute care, immunizations and sports physicals. She works alongside Registered Nurse Lindzey Allen. Licensed Master Social Worker De’Errika Scott provides behavioral health counseling at the clinic. She sees students for a variety of reasons including: stress and anger management, anxiety, trauma, depression, and bullying. Therapy is offered on an individual or group basis. Students can visit Ms. Scott by going to the health center. The health center is supported by Secretary Lexi Maxwell. Parents can also call and request that their child be seen for care. All students must have a current consent and enrollment form on file at the health center in order to be seen by medical staff. Consent and enrollment forms are sent home at the beginning of the year; however, parents may sign their child up for services at any time during the school year.
Co-payments are waived for all students and faculty/staff enrolled at our SBHC. Commercial insurances including Medicaid and Medicare are accepted. Students who are uninsured can also receive care with a consent and enrollment form on file with the health center. Any medications prescribed for your child may be filled through the Access Health Louisiana Pharmacy and delivered to your home. We also work with nearby Walgreens and CVS pharmacies and can have most prescriptions filled at a discounted rate.

As a health center quality leader, AHL achieved the best overall clinical performance among all health centers, placing in the top 10 percent of the adjusted quartile rankings for Clinical Quality Measures. Keep in mind, AHL is in the top 10 percent of the 1,400 health centers that operate more than 12,000 service delivery sites that provide primary health care in every U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Pacific Basin. AHL was also awarded an Access Enhancer Award and Health Disparities Award for increasing access to healthcare and improving health outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities.
