Please welcome our new Family Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth “Liz” Jackel. Ms. Jackel has been working in school-based healthcare for almost 20 years. She previously worked with Access Health Louisiana at its West Jefferson High School clinic in Jefferson Parish. She joins Certified Medical Assistant and Clinical Training Specialist Hillary Simmons, and Licensed Professional Counselor Paige Fremen.
The J.B. Martin/R.J. Vial Wellness Center opened in 2015 in Paradis, Louisiana. The wellness center is located in the raised portable building on campus between the elementary and middle school building. The clinic offers services to the students and staff of J.B. Martin Middle and R.J. Vial Elementary School, as well as students and staff from any St. Charles Parish Public School. Students are escorted to and from the wellness center from their classrooms by members of our clinical team.
To be seen at the clinic, parents must complete a consent and enrollment form, and submit it to the wellness center. Consent and enrollment forms are sent home with the students at the start of the school year; however, parents may sign their child up at any time during the year. Copies of these forms may be found on the right side of this webpage. Please remember that children without consent forms on file cannot be seen by the clinic. Telemedicine services are also being offered this school year to assist students taking advantage of virtual learning from home. Telehealth options are also good if your child is sick and needs an excuse note to turn into the school.
Nurse Practitioner Liz Jackel provides primary care services for children including well checks, immunizations, sports physicals, acute, and diagnostic services. Mrs. Jackel is assisted by Hillary Simmons who also serves as our front desk administrator. Licensed Professional Counselor Paige Fremen offers counseling and support services to students including: stress and anger management, dealing with anxiety, bullying, substance abuse, grief counseling, and communication.
Co-pays are waived for all students and faculty/staff enrolled at our wellness center. Commercial insurances including Medicaid and Medicare are accepted. Students who are uninsured can also receive care with a consent and enrollment form on file with the wellness center. Any medications prescribed for your child may be filled through our Access Health Louisiana Pharmacy and delivered to your home the next day for free.
Students needing emergency care after school hours, please call 9-1-1. You can also visit our nearby St. Charles Community Health Center located at 843 Milling Avenue in Luling Monday-Thursdays 8 am until 4:30 and on Friday and Saturday from 8am-noon.
