Supplies for Success Back to School Giveaway - Access Health Louisiana

Dorseyville Elementary now offers School-Based Behavioral Health Services. Please welcome Joyy Joseph, LPC-S, our new therapist.

Access Health Louisiana (AHL) has a school-based health center offering behavioral health services at Dorseyville Elementary. The school-based health center is located inside the school building. Licensed Professional Counselor Joyy Joseph offers individual and group therapy for children dealing with stress and anger management, trauma, depression, anxiety, bullying, or even relationships. Ms. Joseph is a graduate of Xavier University in New Orleans and holds a master’s degree in mental health counseling with a concentration on trauma in children and adolescents from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D. C. She also has prior experience working in Ascension Parish’s Head Start program.

Parents can request that their child be seen for therapy services by either calling the front office of Dorseyville Elementary at (225) 545-3805 or leaving a message with the Dorseyville School-Based Health Center at (225) 228-5653.

For students needing to see a psychiatrist, appointments can be arranged virtually through the school-based health center with an Access Health Louisiana child psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Students at Dorseyville may schedule immunizations, as well as sports physicals and well child visits, through our neighboring Plaquemine High School-based Health Center. Nurse Practitioner Courtney Breaud will schedule mobile medical drives to accommodate children in need of those services. To request an appointment for your child, please call (225) 369-6510.

School-based health services offer continuity of care for your child during the school day. all students must have a completed consent and enrollment form on file with the school-based health center in order to receive services. On your consent form, you will be asked to list contact information for your child’s pediatrician, therapist, psychiatrist, and/or dentist so that our school-based staff can keep them informed of any follow-up your child may need.

AHL operates school-based health services (SBHC) at six locations in Iberville Parish.  Those locations include the Plaquemine High Health Center, MSA-West Academy, Iberville Alternative Positive Program for Students (IAPPS), White Castle High, Dorseyville Elementary, and Iberville Elementary.  Iberville Elementary’s school-based services opened in fall of 2018. All students must have a  current consent and enrollment form on file at the health center in order to be seen by medical staff. Consent and enrollment forms are sent home at the beginning of the year; however, parents may sign their child up for services at any time during the school year.  Forms may also be found on the right-hand side of this webpage.

Co-payments are waived for all students and faculty/staff enrolled at our SBHC.  Commercial insurances including Medicaid and Medicare are accepted.  Students who are uninsured can also receive care with a consent and enrollment form on file with the health center.  Any medications prescribed for your child may be filled through the Access Health Louisiana Pharmacy and delivered to your home.  We also work with nearby community pharmacies and can have most prescriptions filled at a discounted rate.

If you have an emergency outside of school hours, please call 9-1-1.
