Are you worried about your child’s weight? Access Health Louisiana Pediatric providers are participating in the TEAM Up study and are currently recruiting patients for the project. TEAM Up is a weight management study focused on getting families healthier in four states – New York, Missouri, Illinois and Louisiana. The purpose of this research project is to test different ways to help children and their families lose weight through healthy eating and physical activity. TEAM Up visits will occur during the child’s regular visit with their Primary Care Physician (PCP). Children who can participate in the project must meet several criteria including: a BMI percentile higher than 95th for age and sex, be between six and 15 years of age, speak some English, willing to change eating habits or engage in physical activity, be a patient of an AHL clinic and able to participate in scheduled visits for 18 months. Participants are given $50 for completing four assessments over the study. AHL providers participating in the study include: Lisa Spence from St. Bernard, Dr. Christina Piron and Nurse Practitioner Monica Pederson from Kenner. For more information, contact the St. Bernard Community Health Center at (504) 281-2800 or the Kenner Community Health Center at (504) 712-7800.
