Here’s when you can start getting care with Healthy Louisiana:
As soon as you qualify for Medicaid or LaCHIP You can start getting health and dental care services as soon as you or your family members qualify for Medicaid or LaCHIP.
After you are in a Healthy Louisiana health plan or dental plan After you join a Healthy Louisiana health plan you can call your Primary Care Provider (PCP) to make appointments if you need care. If you have questions about your health care, call your health plan. When you go to a health appointment, take your Medicaid card and your new health plan ID card with you.
After you join a Healthy Louisiana dental plan, you can call your Primary Dental Provider (PDP) to make appointments if you need care. If you have questions about your dental care, call your dental plan. When you go to a dental appointment, take your Medicaid card and your dental plan ID card with you.
If you choose a health plan or dental plan
You will get a letter from Healthy Louisiana confirming your health plan or dental plan. It will list the new plan you chose and any other Healthy Louisiana plan you are a member of. It will also list your doctor and dental provider, if you chose one. The letter will tell you when you can start using the plans and seeing your doctor and dental provider.
If you do not choose a health plan or dental plan
We will choose a health plan and dental plan for you if you are eligible. You will get a letter telling you the names of your plans. The letter will also tell you the date you can start using health plan and dental plan services. For questions call Healthy Louisiana at 1-855-229-6848 (TTY: 1-855-526-3346).
You will also get a letter and plan ID cards from your health plan and dental plan
Take your health plan ID card to all your medical visits. Take your dental plan ID card to all your dental visits.

Open Enrollment
Open enrollment ends November 30, 2021 at 6pm Central. During this time, Healthy Louisiana members may change their health plan or dental plan if they want to.

Important information for families impacted by Hurricane Ida
If you live in one of the 25 parishes that FEMA approved for disaster relief because of Hurricane Ida, you now have until 6 p.m. on June 30, 2022 to change your health plan or dental plan. Or you can do nothing and keep the plans you have now.
You can change your health plan, your dental plan, or both. This is not to renew your Medicaid coverage. It is a chance to change health plans or dental plans with no reason needed. If you do not want to change plans or if you already changed your plan during Open Enrollment and want to keep it, you do not have to do anything.
If you want to change your health plan or dental plan, you now have until 6 p.m. on June 30, 2022.
