Access Health Louisiana’s Oakdale School-Based Health Center team joined Allen Parish school nurses in a recent emergency disaster preparation training. Every second counts when a person is injured. In fact, the American College of Surgeons says that someone who is severely injured can bleed to death in less than five minutes. This is why the Louisiana Emergency Response Network or LERN is traveling the state teaching first responders like our school nurses and therapists how to properly apply tourniquets and stop severe bleeding. Since the “Stop the Bleed” program started, nearly four million people worldwide have been trained in how to control bleeding in emergency situations. Each participant received a certificate after completing the program.
