A Great Time for St. Charles Families at the Community Health Center

The St. Charles Community Health Center held a “Stress Less Fest” at its Norco clinic located on 16004 River Road on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Families enjoyed free health education from community partners including: Healthy Blue Louisiana, Humana, Louisiana Department of Health, LSU Ag Center, and more. The event was coordinated by Access Health Louisiana to educate, inspire, and empower residents to learn more about how to improve their health, as well as the importance of self care.

Celebrating Community in St. Charles Parish with an outreach event to educate, inspire, and empower patients to achieve better health.

The St. Charles Parish Public Library brought its reading bus to the event. Children in attendance got the chance to select a book to read and relax for some story time on the mobile library bus. The library was also promoting its summer reading program to children, as well as a new service that allows homebound residents to order books and videos and have them delivered directly to their home or apartment. For anyone needing help with using their home computer, smartphone or setting up an email account, you can “Book a Librarian.” The service allows any St. Charles Parish resident to schedule a one-on-one appointment with a technology expert at the library branch nearest you for free help with your home technology. For more information, contact a local library branch on the east or west bank side of the river.

The LSU Ag Center taught families how to grow edible, nutritious meals and how cooking can be fun. The demonstrated how to make homemade salsa that is nutritious and delicious. Some attendees even had the chance to take home their own herbs. There was even a station for the kids to make sensory bottles and for the grown ups to try out acupuncture services.

Individuals wishing to learn more about Medicaid were given the ability to sign up during the event. Access Health Louisiana staff assisted individuals with applying for Medicaid and also making appointments at the St. Charles Community Health Center location.

Access Health Louisiana’s Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs Dr. Kevin Joseph came out to meet families and patients. Dr. Joseph sees patients at both the Luling and Norco clinics weekly. He’s in Norco on Tuesdays and Fridays.

To get the crowd moving, DJ Lady B played some hit tunes for families to line dance with local influencer “Susie Q. Bailey.”

Our friends from the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter came out to talk about the role pets can play in helping to reduce stress. In fact, three month old “Gracie” not only enjoyed the attention from everyone petting her, but she is also up for adoption at the animal shelter. For adoption information on “Gracie” and other pets available for loving homes, contact the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter or visit its facility located at 921 Deputy Jeff G. Watson Drive in Luling.

Local St. Charles Parish restaurants and businesses donated gift certificates for meals, items, gift baskets and more. Congratulations to all our lucky winners. Children attending also received free Raising Cane’s gift cards good for free lemonade.

Families listened to great music, ate free snowballs and enjoyed a free italian meal donated by Carraba’s Italian Restaurant in Metairie. Access Health Louisiana would like to thank all its community partners for donating their time, talents, and food to make the “Stress Less Fest” such a success. A special thanks to Destrehan High School’s National Honor Society members who volunteered to help out by serving food, assisting community partners with engagement activities at their booths, as well as dressing up as the “Cool Tooth” to help promote Access Health Louisiana’s School-Based Health Center program offering fluoride varnish treatments to patients in St. Charles Parish.
