DECEMBER 1

IS WORLD AIDS DAY

World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. It’s also reserved as a day to bridge new and effective programs and policies across different sectors around HIV/AIDS.
.
Today, over 25 million people living with HIV have access to life-saving medication. AIDS-related deaths have declined by 60% since their peak in 2003 and the number of babies born each day with HIV has declined by more than two thirds since 2000. World AIDS Day remains as relevant today as it’s always been, reminding people and governments that HIV has not gone away. There is still a critical need for increased funding for the AIDS response, to increase awareness of the impact of HIV on people’s lives, to end stigma and discrimination and to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.
Show your support by wearing a red ribbon on World AIDS day.
.
We work to break down the stigma of HIV that our patients encounter every day. How? We provide routine testing through our primary care appointments, walk-in rapid testing, and our at-home HIV rapid testing program. Also, we quickly get our newly diagnosed patients on same-day anti-retroviral treatment, work to get out patients undetectable because we know that Undetectable = Untransmutable (U=U), and provide Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) as part of our HIV prevention efforts.
