Members of the Root Cause Coalition’s annual conference toured the South Broad Community Health Center on Monday, October 8, 2018. Louisiana Healthcare Connections selected Access Health Louisiana (AHL) to host the tour of its Broadmoor clinic due to its long-standing relationship with the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Approximately 30 attendees arrived by tour bus from the Sheraton where the conference was being held. During their visit to the clinic, executives from the FQHC shared how Access Health Louisiana makes accessing healthcare easy and affordable to underserved communities. AHL CEO Mark Keiser and Vice President of Operations, James Comeaux, explained how AHL got its start as a FQHC and how the non-profit organization is positively impacting the communities they serve. Andre Stolier, AHL’s Government Relations Specialist, talked about the quality of care patients receive and how care teams work to improve patients overall health. Community Medicine Director, Dr. Eric Griggs (“Doc Griggs”) , explained how important it is for FQHCs to work with community partners to help improve patient health. Those in attendance included representatives from hospital systems across the United States, as well as physicians, social workers and data analysts. The Root Cause Coalition is a non-profit organization that was formed to achieve health equity through cross-sector collaboration. The three-day conference allowed people from all across the country to share best practices and collaborate on ways to achieve health equity. The focus of this year’s third annual conference was “The Social Determinants of Health”.
