Carnival kings and queens are making their way down the streets of southeast Louisiana. With the Mardi Gras season upon us, Access Health Louisiana has everything you need for a healthy parade season.  Children and seniors are very vulnerable during parade season because of cold weather and increased exposure to germs.  It’s a great time to schedule a wellness appointment for family members. Being aware of your child’s health concerns or changes before parade season can help ease the pressure of the busy season. Our network of providers can treat primary and behavioral health issues for the entire family.

Access Health Louisiana Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Lisa Spence provides a couple of helpful tips for successfully surviving any parade route this Mardi Gras season.  “First, make sure to layer children with clothing so that they can better tolerate weather changes.  Be sure to pack a variety of snacks and water,” advises Spence.  “It’s important to keep children hydrated throughout the day.  Also, it’s a good idea to bring things for kids to play with along the route.  Many families spend hours along the parade route.  Bring a stroller or pack and play for children to be in for safety and comfort.”
