Back to School Events are a Success!

News

Four successful back to school events were held this summer at Access Health Louisiana clinics in Hammond, Kenner, St. Bernard and Bogalusa. In all, more than one-thousand children received school supplies. At all locations, families were lined up one to two hours before doors opened. Most of the events featured activities for the children including fun demonstrations by the LSU Ag Center, Easy Steps, YMCA, Healthy Blue, Louisiana Healthcare Connections and Aetna. AHL’s Behavioral Health Department even made crafts with the children showing them alternative ways for releasing anger when they are unhappy. AHL clinics not holding formal events are giving out school supplies to children coming in for well visits and sports physicals in August (while supplies last).  The school supply giveaways were made possible through generous donations from Aetna, Louisiana Healthcare Connections and Healthy Blue.

Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn, along with representatives from Kenner City Council, Jefferson Parish President Dominic Impastato’s office and Jefferson Parish School Board came out to support the event at the Esplanade Mall.

All of the back to school events were promoted on iHeart and Northshore Broadcasting radio stations, as well as newspaper advertisements, automated calls from each school district, flyers within the community and announcements on television stations WWL-TV, WDSU-TV, WGNO-TV, FOX8 and Telemundo. The St. Bernard Voice newspaper even put the event information on the top of the front page of the newspaper!

Interviews were also conducted on live radio during the morning drive times on “Wake Up Kajun Kountry” 107.1 with host T.J. and with Johnny in the morning on “Tangi 96.5”. AHL’s Patient Care Coordinator Maria Norris from our Hammond clinic promoted the back to school giveaways. Bogalusa Operations Manager Angela Houlemard helped cover radio interviews at the Covington radio station 104.7.
