The West Jefferson School-Based Health Center (SBHC) is one of eleven school health center service sites operated by Access Health Louisiana (AHL) in Jefferson Parish. It is located in Harvey on the west bank side of the Mississippi River. AHL provides both Primary Care and Behavioral Health services for this clinic. The West Jefferson SBHC is accessible for all high school students because it is located in front of campus.
Telemedicine appointments are available for students participating in virtual learning.
Ms. Elizabeth Jackel is the Nurse Practitioner at the SBHC. She can see students for both well and sick visits, sports physicals, immunizations, acute & diagnostic care. She is assisted by Registered Nurse Jackie Acosta who also serves as the school nurse. Licensed Clinical Social Worker Susan Glapion provides behavioral health counseling at the clinic. She sees students for a variety of reasons including: stress and anger management, anxiety, trauma, depression and bullying. Therapy is offered on an individual or group basis. Students can visit Ms. Glapion by going to the health center. On Fridays, Family Medicine Physician Pamela Wiseman, MD is in clinic and assisted by residents from the LSU School of Medicine.
Parents can call and request that their child be seen for care. All students must have a current consent and enrollment form on file at the health center in order to be seen by medical staff. Consent and enrollment forms are sent home at the beginning of the year; however, parents may sign their child up for services at any time during the school year. Digital consent forms are also posted on the right side of this webpage.
Co-payments are waived for all students and faculty/staff enrolled at our SBHC. Commercial insurances including Medicaid and Medicare are accepted. Students who are uninsured can also receive care with a consent and enrollment form on file with the health center. Any medications prescribed for your child may be filled through the Access Health Louisiana Pharmacy and delivered to your home. We also work with nearby Walgreens and CVS pharmacies and can have most prescriptions filled at a discounted rate.
Students needing emergency care after hours, please call 9-1-1.
