Angie Ruiz, LCSW | Director

Access Health Louisiana (AHL) is expanding its school-based health center program to Destrehan High School for the 2022-23 school year. Behavioral health services will be offered to any student on campus during the school day. Licensed Professional Counselor Natosha Pena offers counseling and support services to students including: stress and anger management, dealing with anxiety, bullying, substance abuse, grief counseling, and communication. Individual and group therapy sessions can be scheduled. Ms. Pena’s office is located in a portable building on Destrehan High’s campus.

Virtual appointments are also available for students from home. To be seen by Ms. Pena, parents must complete a consent and enrollment form and submit it to the wellness center. Consent and enrollment forms are sent home with the students at the start of the school year; however, parents may sign their child up at any time during the school year. Copies of these forms may be found on the right side of this webpage. Please remember that students who do not have consent forms on file cannot be seen for wellness center services.

Co-pays are waived for all students and faculty/staff enrolled at our wellness center.   Commercial insurances including Medicaid and Medicare are accepted.  Students who are uninsured can also receive care with a consent and enrollment form on file with the wellness center.  Any medications prescribed for your child may be filled through our Access Health Louisiana Pharmacy and delivered to your home next day for free.

Students needing emergency care after school hours, please call 9-1-1.  You can also visit our nearby St. Charles Community Health Center in Luling located at 843 Milling Avenue Monday-Thursdays until 4:30pm and on Fridays and Saturdays from 8am-noon.  Additionally, you can visit our St. Charles Community Health Center located at 16004 River Road in Norco on Monday-Thursdays until 4:30pm and on Fridays from 8am-12pm.
